It also compares Winnipeg with Calgary in terms of planning for future green spaces. The maps included in the presentation show the distribution of greenspaces and where greenspace deficits exist.

Join us for Save Our Seine’s Annual General meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 23 at Morrow Gospel Church (755 St. Anne’s Road). Laura Taylor will be on hand to report on the role of the SOS River Keepers in keeping the Seine River clean and navigable, maintaining trails, and restoring natural habitats.The business meeting will be followed by a panel discussion.
Braden Smith, Chief Planner for the City of Winnipeg has agreed to participate in the panel discussion and Q & A. Other panelists are still to be confirmed.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about Save Our Seine, its programs, and annual activities. SOS is always looking for new board members and volunteers to contribute their time to the success of the organization.
We are holding a Tree Planting event at the Niakwa Trail Rain Garden on Thursday, September 21. We need volunteers to help us plant 30 trees and shrubs that were donated through the Re-Leaf Project. Ace Bobcat Services will start digging each hole but holes need to be finished with the help of volunteers. Volunteers are needed to plant the trees, add mulch, and water the newly planted trees. Please meet us at the garden any time after 3 p.m. Bring hand digging tools, spades, buckets, and a wheelbarrow (if you can). Some tools will be available. Thanks to Wilma Sotas for pulling this event together. The rain garden is at the corner of Fermor and St. Anne’s Road. Volunteers can park in the Superstore parking lot. See the map/poster attached.
Celebrate International Trails Day with a special photographic scavenger hunt on the beautiful trails of the Seine River. Pick up the list of items to find at the tennis courts north of Leo Remillard School (1095 St. Anne’s Road). When you return with your photo collection of these items (before noon), points will be awarded for each item. Please remember to stay on the trails while you participate in this fun-filled photo hunt for people of all ages.
To celebrate Earth Day (April 22), Chocolatier Constance Popp will be selling her special “chocolate of the world’ chocolates and “Salt of the Earth’ chocolates – and donating 100% of the proceeds to Save Our Seine!
Constance is a true fan of the Seine River and Save Our Seine. She used to be on the board of directors. She lives and works near the river and loves the Seine River trails. Constance has also canoed the river a few times from the floodway to the Red River.
So, we hope you will show your support for Save Our Seine this Earth Day by picking up some delicious chocolates at her shop at 180 Provencher Boulevard (204-897-0689).
